Within the past few weeks, there’s been somewhat of a turning point in the Republican Party. More and more Republicans are starting to openly come out against Donald Trump, his influence in the GOP, and his now ongoing candidacy in the 2024 presidential election.
A huge factor in this is the fact that many candidates whom Trump endorsed in the 2022 midterms bombed.
Then, there’s the interest in generational change for the Republican Party, along with the reality of the GOP losing the House, Senate, and White House with Trump at the helm.
Republicans who have soured on Trump are largely looking to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the new leader and new favorite. Even individuals who were once strongly aligned with Trump are now coming out against him.
One example is former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, as documented by Washington Examiner.
Veiled Criticism From Pompeo
During the height of Trump’s rise to promience in politics, he vowed that his supporters would be “tired of winning” with him as the leader. Though after several losses for Republicans, more people are now taking aim at this promise.
On Twitter, Pompeo said the GOP was promised to get tired of winning, but in actuality, most Republicans have gotten tired of losing.
Today, I’m going to speak at @RJC on how we can regain Americans’ trust and win again.

The former secretary of state then said he would be giving a speech at the Republican Jewish Coalition to find out how the GOP can regain Americans’ trust and get back to winning elections.
Pompeo isn’t the only one to take aim at Trump’s “tired of winning” vow. Days ago, talk show host Bill Maher called out the former president for this talking point.
Maher said folks are ultimately tired of losing before calling the former president a loser.
Knives Out For Trump
As more of the political right turns on Trump, polls are showing DeSantis gaining major, double-digit leads over the former president in GOP primary races.
Just days prior, Club For Growth released a series of polls that showed DeSantis ahead of Trump in states like Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, Texas, and Georgia. This is noteworthy since Club For Growth was once firmly in the pro-Trump camp.

With Trump having already announced his run in the 2024 presidential election, Republicans are now eager to see if DeSantis will do the same.
Though seeing as the Florida governor just handily won reelection, if he announces a presidential run, it is unlikely to materalize before 2023. In the meantime, Americans can expect to get a good look at more DeSantis vs. Trump polls.
