Breaking: Portland Rioter Sentenced to 12.5 Years for Manslaughter of Infant Son

Kurtis Means, 23, of Portland, South Dakota has been sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for the murder of his three-month-old child.

Means was previously placed on probation for attacking a federal contract worker. He pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the first degree and one count of criminal maltreatment in the first degree.

In April 2021, Means was found responsible for the murder of his infant son, Hunter Means, just months after he had been set free for his other crime in January 2021.

Abuse

Prosecutors alleged that Means violently jolted his son, causing the young child to strike his head on something, resulting in brain trauma.

Means had previously been charged with second-degree murder, but was only found guilty of manslaughter. Multnomah County will transfer funds to the Oregon Department of Corrections.

During the investigation, Hunter’s mother stated Means abused her “like an animal” and was “really physically violent” towards her.

Hunter and his brother appeared to be recuperating from rib injuries, but there was no definitive link to Means. According to Hunter’s treating physician, Dr. Adebimpe Adewusi, Hunter’s injuries were most likely not the result of a mishap.

Federal Worker And Texts

In August 2020, Means threatened a federal worker with a paintball weapon in front of the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse in Portland. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail before being released on probation.

During the incident, he held a paintball gun while cursing at the contractor and announcing that the next time it would be an AR.

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis, violent unrest occurred in numerous U.S. cities, including Portland. Nevertheless, Means’ case is unrelated to the disturbances.

Means will now serve a prolonged prison sentence for the infant’s demise. Means received a text message from Hunter’s mother before he was apprehended, urging him not to flee.

She allegedly texted him that his running away made it look like he did something. She also said he should put aside his emotions about law enforcement for the sake of their kids.
