Biden Wants Absolute Authority of Senate

Joe Biden expects Georgia Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock to win his Senate runoff election to give Democrats 51 seats in the Senate. According to Biden, Democrats can only dominate the Senate committees if they get 51 seats in the chamber.

Biden Seeks to Dominate the Senate

Democrats’ chances to control the Senate were bleak until Catherine Cortez Masto won her reelection in Nevada by a mere margin of 6,000 votes.

After hearing the news of the victory of Cortez Masto in the Senate, Biden noted that he now wants to win the 51st Senate seat for Democrats, arguing that he needs to pack Senate committees with liberal politicians.

Furthermore, Biden argued he is hopeful that Democrats will retain the House of Representatives, even though Republicans are about to win the House majority.

Joe Biden was speaking from the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Cambodia’s capital, Phnom Penh. The summit made headlines majorly because of Biden’s huge gaffe as he thanked Colombia, instead of Cambodia, for hosting ASEAN countries.

Biden also established that he would be able to negotiate better with Chinese President Xi Jinping after winning the Senate. Xi and Biden met on Monday in Bali, where they reportedly discussed a wide variety of issues.

As per Biden, having 51 senators is always better, as it will allow Democrats to rule most of the Senate committees. If Republicans win the Georgia runoffs, both parties will have 50 seats, which means the Republican Party will also have equal representation in Senate committees.

Biden is also wishing for 51 Senate seats to reduce the importance of Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema.

While Biden needed the votes of both senators to pass his socialist agenda in the Senate, he will only need one of them to pass further bills from the upper chamber if Sen. Warnock wins his runoff election.

Democrats Want to Win the Georgia Runoff Election

Meanwhile, Chuck Schumer, who will remain Senate Majority Leader, stated the Democrats’ Senate victory means that Americans have rejected the MAGA agenda.

Schumer asserted that Democrats won the Senate due to three reasons, including the presence of good candidates, Biden’s agenda, and Americans’ revolt against extremist and anti-democratic politicians.

In addition, the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Gary Peters, asserted that voters had trusted Democrats for another two years. Peters further argued that every Democrat is now focused on winning the Georgia runoff election.

Though some political observers suggested that Democrats won the Senate mostly because more Republicans were up for reelection.

While 21 Republicans had to defend their seats in the midterm, only 14 Democrats were up for reelection. Republicans have a strong chance to win the Senate majority in 2024, considering more Democrats will face reelection in that cycle.
